9″ Deep Strike Marker tool

A 9-inch Deep Strike Ruler
Template is a straight piece of measuring
equipment with an arc-shaped exterior made of
methacrylate that measures exactly nine inches—the critical
clearance distance models must respect when they enter the table from reserves
in Warhammer 40,000®. This 100% compatible tool is cut from 3
mm fluorescent acrylic and is 3mm thick, which is perfect to slip between
tightly packed terrain pieces without disturbing them. Because the template is
a single rigid piece rather than a tape measure, it can be laid flush against a
model’s base and rotated to draw a perfect nine-inch exclusion zone in any
direction.

Under the 10th-edition Deep Strike template, a unit that
starts the game in Reserves may be set up “anywhere on the battlefield that is
more than 9″ horizontally away from all enemy models” during your
Reinforcements step. The distance is measured base-to-base (or hull-to-base for
vehicles) in a flat plane—vertical height is ignored—so a reliable nine-inch
gauge is indispensable for ensuring the requirement is met.

In play, the template streamlines deployment: you touch one end to the
nearest enemy model’s base, pivot the ruler to trace an invisible circle, and
immediately know the closest legal drop-spot for your arriving unit. Many
players also use the tool before the battle begins, placing it around key
objectives to visualise “no-go” zones an opponent cannot Deep Strike into on
turn two. The fixed length eliminates accidental over-compression or
stretching that can occur with a flexible tape, providing both sides with
identical, verifiable measurements.

Because disputes about “eyeballing” nine inches are one of the most common
slowdowns at tournaments, judges often recommend or even supply these
templates. A single, brightly coloured ruler is far easier to spot across a
busy table than the faint markings on a steel tape, so opponents can check and
agree on distances at a glance instead of re-measuring multiple times. That
consistency speeds up rounds and prevents feel-bad moments where a unit is
later found to be ⅛″ too close and must be moved back.

Any unit with the Deep Strike, Teleport, Null Deployment, or similar keyword
benefits from the ruler—Terminators, Sanguinary Guard, Tyranid Warriors
with Tunnelling bugs, Tau Battlesuits with Manta-strike, Chaos Raptors,
among many of them with this game rule. Beyond arrivals, the nine-inch edge
doubles as a handy movement gauge for common actions such as Advance+Normal
Move totals, Heroic Intervention bubbles, and Objective Control radii. In
short, the Deep Strike Ruler Template is a small investment that pays off every
time reserves hit the table, keeping your deployments legal, rapid, and
controversy-free.

GSW’s 9-inch ruler template looks like it was lifted straight out of a
neon-lit sci-fi cockpit: laser-cut from transparent fluorescent acrylic, it
catches ambient light and glows along the edges, so the etched tick-marks
remain crystal-clear even in low-key tournament halls. The 3 mm thickness keeps
the tool perfectly rigid—no flexing or warping—while a polished, beveled edge
lets you slide it between clustered models without snagging delicate paint
jobs.
